This past weekend, Yusaku and I headed to California for his good childhood friend, Kyoko's, wedding. We flew into San Francisco, arriving in the wee hours of Friday morning. After getting to our hotel and getting a little sleep, we had some time to explore before heading up to Healdsburg to meet up with everyone else. Since we had just visited San Francisco a few years before, we didn't feel like we had to try to squeeze in a lot of sightseeing. We started off with a little shopping in Union Square, then headed to Japan Town for a little lunch and shopping. After that, we took our time heading north and stopped for a quick hike at Point Reyes National Park. From there, we took a scenic drive along Tomales Bay. Here are some pictures from those adventures.
As much as we love Olivia, it was really nice for us to have some time to ourselves, especially with baby #2 arriving in just nine weeks. Olivia stayed home with my parents and had a lot of fun with them. It worked out nicely for all of us. :)
Friday night, we had a paella dinner at winery a few minutes from where we were staying. It was nice to meet and visit with many of Yusaku's childhood friends. The picture below is from an after-dinner game of cornhole - Yusaku and Yosuke vs. Hiro and Saori (brother and sister, good friends of Yusaku's from NJ).
We got to stay in awesome rental house along with Yusaku's parents, brother and sister-in-law, and other family friends. The picture below is the view from the living room window.
Saturday morning, we headed into downtown Healdsburg and had a delicious breakfast at the French Bakery/Cafe (in the picture below) with Yusaku's parents and Yosuke and Manami. Afterwards, we walked around the very cute little town, making a stop at another bakery and then hitting up the farmer's market (which was amazing!).
My best friend from toddler/baby/childhood, Shiloh, lives in San Rafael, which as it turns out, is only a little over an hour south of where we were. After getting in touch with her at the last minute, we were able to make plans to meet up for lunch in Petaluma - about halfway between both of us. It was so nice to catch up with her. I don't think I've seen her since our wedding almost seven years ago. Too bad we live so far away!
Will post pictures from the wedding in the next post. :)
