I went to the doctor today for the second time. I left work about an hour early and rushed from Trotwood to Centerville to make it in time for my 2:40 appointment. As it turns out, I could have taken my time because I proceeded to sit in the waiting room for the next hour. When they finally got me back there, I was done in about ten minutes.
They weighed me, took my blood pressure, and then doctor came in and listened to the heartbeat. It sounded good! It was about 155 beats per minute (a little slower than last time). Who knows what that means according to the whole boy vs. girl wives-tale? My friend Kelly is pretty sure it's a girl and thinks anything over 140 is probably a girl. It really doesn't matter either way, but we will find out soon enough! They scheduled my 20 week ultrasound at today's visit, so...mark your calendars! May 14th is the big day, when we find out whether we're going to have a boy or a girl!

The News is Out...all the way!
This Tuesday marked 12 weeks...almost done with the first trimester. I decided this was a good time to announce the news to the Facebook world and then to my students today. It was fun to see their reaction. Some of them clapped (mostly the girls I think). I told them I would come back and visit them next year with the baby. They wanted to know if I would come to BOTH 4th grade classes like I would really just go visit one and not the other. :) Other interesting questions included: Is the baby already in your stomach? (Yes) Is it growing arms and legs? (Yes) What are you trying for it to be (meaning would I rather have a boy or girl)? When I responded that I would be happy either way, I don't really think this particular student bought it. She was like, so which do you REALLY want? Luckily, I didn't any questions about where the baby came from! ;)

Mmmmmm...figs!
According to babycenter.com, our baby, who is now 11 weeks, is the size of a fig. I like fig newtons, but I don't think I've ever seen a real fig at the grocery store. Luckily, by next week our baby will be the size of a lime, which is a little easier to imagine the size of.
If you didn't know I was pregnant, I'm sure you couldn't tell, but as of last week, I can't button most of my pants. I bought a little belly band thing to cover the tops of my pants and allow me to go unbuttoned discreetly. I am holding out on any actual maternity pants as long as I can...hopefully at least a few more weeks. My little "bump" seems to look big after I eat a big meal only to shrink back the next day...ha ha! I will probably start taking belly pictures each week from now on, but won't post anything on here til there's more to really see. Off to enjoy some pizza and make the belly grow! :)

Feeling like a Granny
I've enjoyed knitting for a while and recently taught myself to crochet. I find it relaxing but it also makes me feel kind of old! Ha ha! My latest obsession is crocheting granny squares. I'm hoping to eventually stitch them all together into a blanket for the baby. We don't know yet whether it will be a boy or a girl, so hopefully these colors will be okay either way.
Speaking of gender, vote in our poll (see top right corner of blog) if you have a feeling one way or another. We just thought that would be fun! When we find out at the end of April/beginning of May (depending on when our appointment is) we will let you all the know gender!

Welcome to the world baby Quinn!
Well, Leslee and I were supposed to go to Mama DiSalvo's for dinner with our moms last night at 6:00. Apparently Quinn had other plans as he made his debut at 5:54 p.m. yesterday (just in time for dinner)! The funny thing was that the reason we were going to go there was because apparently Leslee and I's parents had had dinner there the night before Leslee was born. We were hoping that maybe having dinner there would induce Leslee's labor. I guess just the idea of going was enough. ;)
Yusaku and I got to meet Quinn Thomas Flannery last night. 6 lbs 15 oz and 20 in. long (I think!) He's pretty darn cute! Leslee did a great job and looked great for having just given birth too. My mom was there too as a very excited great-aunt. Looks like our baby will have a playmate ready to go when he/she arrives!

My Parent's Reaction
After going to dinner for my mom's birthday we came back to our house for cake and presents. We surprised my parents by telling them our big news (written in my mom's card). Above you can see their reaction! :) I snapped this picture right after they found out.
A picture of me and my parents after it had sunk in a little and before they went home for the night!
First Doctor's Appointment!
This morning we had our first doctor's appointment. We got to see the baby on the ultrasound and hear the heartbeat. The heartbeat was fast - 170 beats per minute. That could mean it's a girl, but who knows! I'll be happy either way as long as it's a healthy baby!
I was relieved to know that there really is a baby in there. At this point in the pregnancy, it's still hard to believe, so getting to actually see the baby helped to make it seem more real. The baby kind of even did a little head flip kind of thing while we were watching it...pretty cool! I had to give five vials of blood, but I was very brave! :)
Looking forward to sharing the news with the rest of our friends and family now (or at least after I take a little nap).
